Oh my, ladies. If you have not been for a spa weekend, get thee to a spa immediately. It was the best weekend ever. Totally surpassed all my expectations.
The spa is up in the Wisconsin Dells - a place known for its world record giant waterparks. After our 4 hour plus drive (with some fun detours through corn fields), we took our exit and were greeted with giant hotels and even more giant water slides. Laura and I looked at each other a little nervous about what we had gotten ourselves into. But with a little more driving we ended up in the hills in the middle of an evergreen forest. It looked and smelled just wonderful.
There is a main spa building with the pools, treatment rooms, and guest rooms. But I somehow didn't understand they had regular hotel rooms and had booked us our own villa. Yes, a villa. It was ridiculous and wonderful. I think we can only stay in villas from here on out. There was a full kitchen that was bigger than my apartment kitchen (which we clearly never used since we just had room service), a fancy shower with 5 shower heads/nozzles (I could've just stayed in the shower all weekend and called it my spa service. Heavenly), the bedroom, and this GIANT room bigger than the entire downstairs of my apartment with 20+ foot curved ceilings with a tv, couches, and a hot tub. I didn't get in the hot tub, but it was fun for Laura!
We did, in fact, leave our villa (and without the aid of the car service they have to take guests the 100 feet between their villas and the spa building). We had been nervous that driving so far norht it'd be chilly, and we were hanging out in robes all weekend, but it was a gorgeous sunny weekend in the 70s. We laid in the sun by the heated pool (but didn't go in, while other people liked it, 70s hasn't ever really been pool weather to me), drank their millions of teas, did those relaxing sand raking things, and then went off for our first services.
First up - an organic pedicure. The spa was really big on chemical free, organic ingredient products. Which is right up my alley. Especially while pregnant.
Next - massages. Laura went off for hers and I went to a prenatal massage. I've had a few so far, and boy do I miss laying on my stomach. Getting a massage while propped on your side is just not as fun. But, this being the best spa ever, they had a setup where I could in fact lay on my stomach, with the pressure on my chest and legs, but my belly hung without pressure and was just cradled by pillows. I wanted to buy the maternity massage set up they had so I could sleep on my stomach at home. Just being able to lay on my stomach was heavenly enough, and we hadn't even gotten to the massage part yet. And the mssage part, well that didn't disappoint. All my aches and pains were long gone by the end of the hour.
From there we went back to our villa, ordered room service, watched Lifetime, and Laura got in the hot tub. It was great.
Sunday morning we went off to breakfast and from there to our final spa service - organic facials. I've had many facials and they're all different. Some are just face masks and do stuff on your face, and others through in a quick hand massage or something. This one, oh my, this one involved shoulder, neck, scalp, arm, hand, leg, and foot massages in addition to the facial treatments that made my skin the softest it's ever felt in my life.
And then we finally had to leave. I seriously could have stayed there forever. Mr. EWP's only response to me saying that I wasn't leaving was "I'd like to see my daughter at some point." So, maybe I could just stay until a little before I was due....
