Do: Dress By Fit, Not By Size

Today's do is a tough one to do. We get so caught up with the number on the piece of clothing that we lose sight of what matters - getting the right fit.

A major offender in this area is Jessica Simpson. By refusing to wear anything but a certain number size, she looks like a gross sausage in this dress. She looks bigger by wearing a too small dress. She would actually look smaller if she had just gone up a size (or two). The sheath dress is a great idea for a curvy figure like hers, but only if it fits.

Sizing is so different by store (and even within the same store!) that you can't get hung up on it. Look beyond the number and see how the item looks. Sometimes you just have to go up to make sure all your curves fit in right. And if the number is so terrible to look upon, then just cut it out! With a little snip you never have to look at the offending size again, but you will continue to look fabulous by wearing clothing that actually fits you well.

Two Dresses for a Kim

Whilst I've been stay at home momming it, I've had little reason to go out fancy dress shopping. I've had to steer clear of dry clean only clothing for the most part. When you're covered in drool and other things on a daily basis, the dry cleaning bills would just be too much.

But that doesn't mean that the need for shopping has left me, so when my friend Kim called me up and asked her to find some dresses for a couple of events she had coming up, I was all in.

First up: a casualish summer outdoor wedding. And I think we found something so very perfect. I love this dress so much I almost bought it for myself, but had nowhere to wear it. It's so very 50s housewife. And you know I love that. Kimmers got it in navy.

Event #2: a cocktail attire gala. I just heart that word gala. And I also heart one-shoulder dresses. And I heart rosettes. YUM! Kimmers is quite the fit lady, and is training for the 2012 Paralympics in London, so she definitely has the shoulders and arms for this dress. She looked HAWT in it. Swoon. If only I had something to wear a one-shouldered rosette dress to. And had the body for it :)

Reader Question: Just Say NO (to Flip Flops)!

I keep seeing people walking around in flip flops. It's so gross. Can you please tell them to stop?

Dear Reader,
I will gladly tell people to ditch the gross rubber slabs.

These are flip flops. They are cheap. They are too young for anyone out of school to be wearing. And they make awful slapping sounds when you walk.

[No, that is not me pictured above. God forbid!]

I absolutely do not understand people's extreme attachment to flip flops. Sure I own some and do find use for them - when going to the pool, the beach, or the nail salon - but in everyday life, they just don't belong.

And, good lord, do NOT get me started on people who wear them to work. Even if you have a casual workplace, wearing flip flops to the office makes you hard to take seriously and definitely does not do you any favors in getting ahead. If you take your work seriously, then take your footwear seriously and don't wear flip flops to work. And that goes for the flip-flops-to-commute women too. Nothing looks more ridiculous with your suit than $5 pieces of rubber attached to your feet. I put you in the same category as the suits + white sneakers women. And you really don't want to be in that category. Trust me.

There are so many better sandal options available to women. Options with style. Options that are age-appropriate. Options that actually give your feet support. Options that don't slap the sidewalk. Options that come in natural materials!!

And, as always, I've posted some of those options below.

Aerosoles, was $69, sale $39.99-$49.99 @

outfit posts

I must admit I've been slacking in the blog area lately. My life has made some big changes in the last few months and it's hard to keep up with all the things I usually do (even the things I love doing like blogging.)
So to make up for it, I'm trying to be a good blogger and take requests. And the thing I always get the most emails and comments about are asking for more outfit posts.
So my dear readers, I am here to say I am going to up the outfit posts. Urban Outfitters dress, White House Black Market belt, Shoes from... I don't remember :)
Marc by Marc Jacobs top, thrifted skirt, J. Crew belt, Jessica Simpson pumps

Robert Rodriguez dress and belt, Steve Madden pumps

Hopefully more to come next week!

Photoshop is now a Faux Pas

It seems the latest trend in the Hollywood hills is to forget Photoshop and start releasing photos for print campaigns that show the celebrities in their natural state.

Check out the latest ladies willing to dare their bare.
Britney Spears un-airbrushed for Candies

Jessica Simpson without makeup on the cover of Marie Claire

Kim Kardashian nude and showing off her curves for Harpers Bazaar

Sarah Palin and her crows feet on the cover of Newsweek

While all of these leading ladies look great, I cant help but push front my opinion of Palin getting a couple ccs of Botox to those crow's feet!

Jessica Simpson Weight Gain

So, apparently Jessica Simpson has put on a little weight....because it's all over the media! Yes, it does appear that the pop singer has gained a few pounds, but I say we should all leave her alone! Quite a change from her Daisy Duke days, but she was on a strict diet and exercise regimen to prepare for her role in The Dukes of Hazard. I think she still looks great, but perhaps she needs a new stylist!

Jessica Simpson's Lip Inflation

With the release of her country album, Jessica Simpson, 28, looks like she has gotten a little lip boost. Back in 2007 she admitted to trying Restylane to try to get a fuller pout, and according to MakeMeHeal.com it looks like she has again experimented with fillers. Although she has not confirmed getting fillers again, recent pictures look like she may have gotten some injected into both her upper and lower lips. The picture to the right is of Simpson taken back in 2000 for InStyle magazine. Ladies and gentlemen, I do not think this is all the result of plumping lipstick and lipgloss! If it is Restlyane or Juvederm, both hyaluronic acid fillers which are non-permanent and made from a naturally derived material found in the body, you will probably just see it fade over time just like the last time she did it. Most lip fillers like these get resorbed by the body over a period of 4 to 6 months after they are injected.
